Field toolboxes

Listed here are toolboxes generated over the year for processing field instruments, namely post-processing and qaqc of Nortek and RDI velocity instruments. They are not perfect and perhaps even clunky but have been tried and tested over time.


Nortek Vector ADVs

  • Reads raw files and converts velocities collected in beam or xyz coordinates into enu
  • QAQC velocities
  • Optional de-spiking and thresholding using method detailed in Goring and Nikora, 2000.
  • Processing of IMU motion sensors to construct heading, pitch and roll information.

Velocity Motion Correction

  • Correction of measured velocities in frequency space using recorded accelerations and rotation rates as per Bluteau et al. (2016), JTECH.
  • Routines were generated when working with RSI's custom built motion pack, but the techniques in this article are applicable to any other velocimeters that records all 6 dof of motion.

RDI Teledyne ADCP

  • Reads raw binaries collected by workhorses, quartermaster and long ranger ADCPs. Developed mainly because we record the rawest of measurements.
  • We added several QAQC routines over the years.

Accessing the toolboxes

All the field-related toolboxes will eventually be in separate (private initially) repositories under the field instruments project at bitbucket.
